It is too random as to whether you’ll survive a rebound off of him, so you can’t rely on skill or practice to beat him – you just have to keep trying, over and over, and hoping that you won’t bounce off Bowser and down the plughole. Decided to have another crack at the end of game boss. And failed. Again. Gah. The main problem is hitting him invariably sends Mario rebounding down directly between both flippers, giving you no chance to survive (make your time – ©AYB 1997). And then you have to start killing him again. I can only get two hits in (I assume he needs three, going off other bosses) before the blue pipe barrier is gone and I fall through the hole …

Picked up enough stars to progress a bit further today. So much further, in fact, that I managed to get the remaining three keys and unlock the entrance to Bowser’s Castle. And met Bowser. Now, I know how to actually beat him (you wind cogs to raise Thwomps which you then drop by hitting a switch and then Bowser falls over and you hit him), it’s just that every so often Bowser jumps up and down, stunning your flippers to …

Played this for about 20 minutes today while I was in a waiting room. I don’t know why, but it looks so much better on the Game Boy Micro than it did when I played it on my SP briefly a few months ago. Anyway. I’ve killed Petey Pirahna, got about 4 stars, and opened up a few cannons. That’s about all though, so far.
